Live off-campus

Approximately 60% of the students on the Campus Monterrey come from other cities and countries. Fortunately, there is an abundance of homes and apartments for rent around the Campus so it is very easy to find a place to live if you choose to be off campus. Students on a limited budget may find living off campus a cheaper option depending on the facilities offered, the proximity to campus, and the number of students sharing the costs. And, of course, it provides you with the freedom to: Live without restrictions on your lifestyle. Choose who you want to live with if you desire to have roommates. Save money shopping for and preparing your own meals. There are several off campus options to consider: Furnished apartments which may or may not include air conditioning and/or heating. Many are located within walking distance from campus, but the less expensive ones are often a short bus ride away. Sharing a house or an apartment with other students. Often times local students post signs on campus bulletin boards searching for someone to share a space with them. Living with locals is a great way to practice your language skills as well as get to know the surrounding area.

Families that offer room & board, but are not affiliated with Tecnológico de Monterrey's Host Family Program. Should you choose this option, keep in mind that these families are not obligated to attend to your cultural needs and differences (although many choose to do so). Sometimes, they offer cleaning and meals. And, some have a separate entrance to the house so you may come and go as you please. To find the housing option that best meets your needs; you should arrive at least one week before your orientation and stay in a nearby hotel during your search. If you need help, Tecnológico de Monterrey has specific staff on campus that can provide you with information about off-campus housing upon request. And, they are happy to assist you in evaluating a potential home or apartment, understanding rental agreements and more.

However, keep in mind that the campus staff does not intervene should any problems arise with your landlord. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you wait until you arrive in Monterrey before committing to any off campus living situation. This way you can meet and talk to your prospective landlord, check out the accommodations and get answers to your questions in person.
