Arrival to Tecnologico de Monterrey


The International Programs Department organizes a number of orientation activities for the few days before classes start. During this week, a series of discussions and lectures (some of them compulsory) are conducted with the purpose of explaining to the students some of the most relevant aspects of their academic experience at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, as well as helping them in the process of adjusting to their new school environment.

The official arrival date is determined in the Academic Calendar (http://www.mty.itesm.mx/rectoria/pi/internationalstudents/ admission/calendar.htm ), and it marks the beginning of the orientation sessions.

I. Reception at the airport

It is important that you know that there is an airport pick up service provided only during the Official Arrival Day*. During this day, Staff from the International Programs Office will be receiving International Students from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m at Tecnologico de Monterrey.

During summer programs, and academic periods beginning in January and August,  there would be a welcoming staff from the International Office receiving international students at the airport, with a free bus pick up shuttle approximately every two hours from the airport to Tecnológico de Monterrey.

In case you are a student for a trimester starting in the months of April or September, there would be a free pick up on the Official Arrival Day, only if you send the information for your arrival (time of arrival, airline, etc) to marisafm@itesm.mx

Below you will find important information if you arrive before or after the official arrival day. We strongly recommend you arrive on the official arrival day.

Remember you are responsible for all information covered during orientation weeks.

  1. If you arrive before the official arrival day during office hours, you can take a taxi from the airport (250 pesos/25 USD aprox) and go directly to the International Programs Office.
  1. If you are going to be living in the school dorms, you will have to wait until the official arrival day for entering your dorm.

  2. If you are going to be living with a Host Family you will have to notify the International Programs Office, so they arrange a meeting with your host family.  There will be a charge for any additional nights.
  1. If you arrive before official arrival day after working hours, we recommend that you stay for one night in a Hotel (approximate price of $800 pesos/ $80 USD per night) and contact us the next day at our office.
  1. If you are going to be living in school dorms, you will have to wait until official arrival day to enter your dorm.

  2. If you are going to be living with a Host Family we inform you that they will pick up students at Tec facilities only in the presence of an International Program Office staff member.   2. If you are going to be living with a Host Family we inform you that they will pick up students at Tec facilities only in the presence of an International Program Office staff member.   1. If you are going to be living in a school dorm, you can go directly to your dorm. The dorm address will be given to you by email before your arrival.

  2. If you are going to be living with a Host Family, they will pick up students at Tec facilities only in the presence of an International Program Office staff member. In case you must arrive after working hours, you will have to notify the International Program Office so they can arrange a meeting with your host family. There will be a charge for any additional nights.

II. Arriving to Tec by car

a) From the Nuevo Laredo (Laredo, TX) interstate freeway

When you enter the city, take MANUEL L. BARRAGAN SUR. This street will take you downtown, but its name will change to Avenida PINO SUAREZ. Drive straight ahead until you get to Avenida CONSTITUCION, turn left (east) following the CONSTITUCION OTE sign.  Keep driving straight until you find the sign for Avenida EUGENIO GARZA SADA. To get to Avenida EUGENIO GARZA SADA, however, you will have to take the left lane and cross the bridge to your right (south). Drive straight until you reach Monterrey Tec located on your left. 

b) From the Saltillo interstate freeway

Follow the road into Monterrey until it becomes Avenida CONSTITUCION. Continue straight ahead until you see the EUGENIO GARZA SADA sign. To get to Avenida EUGENIO GARZA SADA you must take the left lane and cross the bridge to your right (south). Drive straight until you reach Monterrey Tec on your left. 

c) From the Cd. Victoria interstate freeway (also known as Carretera Nacional)

Entering the city, the freeway becomes Avenida EUGENIO GARZA SADA and you should have no trouble reaching Monterrey Tec.  It will be on the right just a few minutes after you get off the freeway.

d) From the Reynosa (McAllen, TX) Interstate Freeway

The Reynosa Interstate Freeway turns into CONSTITUTION.  Follow it until you see the sign Avenida EUGENIO GARZA SADA. To reach EUGENIO GARZA SADA from Reynosa, you will need to get in the right lane and make a “U” turn. Then drive down EUGENIO GARZA SADA until you reach our campus, which will be on your left.

e) From the Miguel Aleman (Roma, TX) Interstate Freeway

This highway merges with the road from the Monterrey International Airport. Follow it until you reach CHURUBUSCO, then turn left (south) on CHURUBUSCO and drive down to Avenida CONSTITUCION. Keep going on CONSTITUCION until you see the Avenida EUGENIA GARZA SADA sign. You will need to get in the right lane and make a “U” turn before crossing the bridge (south). (See the amplified map on this page). Then drive down EUGENIO GARZA SADA until you reach our campus, which will be on your left.
