Amigos Internacionales Program

Throughout your stay, and in addition to the Orientation Program, you may actively participate in the "Amigos Internacionales" (International Friends) program. This program seeks to make the international student feel right at home thanks to the atmosphere of warmth and friendship characteristic of the Mexican people. The program is especially appreciated by the student body of Tecnologico of Monterrey and the number of students wanting to participate increases each semester.

One of the main focuses of the program is to provide each international student with a one-to-one insight on the life in Mexico, primarily the city of Monterrey. ts important to mention that the Tecnologico of Monterrey is an attraction point of students from every state in Mexico city, so our internationals students have the opportunity to learn about different regions of Mexico through the friendships they acquire on the Monterrey Campus.

The typical responsibilities of the Mexican international friend is to provide a good environment for his friend, making it easier to get more acquainted with the Mexican lifestyle, the attraction points such as museums, cultural centers, concerts and etc. His Mexican friend also functions as a guide to the nightlife on the city and provides tips on how to behave and stay safe in Mexico .

Students are able to experience life in Mexico outside the academic environment. In the “Amigos Internacionales” program some students get the chance to be invited by their friends to participate in everyday events, special holidays or traditional celebrations along with their family and become familiar with the folklore and traditions that conform the rich mosaic of influences that makes the Mexican culture.

Another important goal of “Amigos Internacionales” is to satisfy the curiosity and hunger of knowledge to learn more about cultures of the world. We seek the improvement of human relations through understanding and sharing each others cultural beliefs. The Tecnologico of Monterrey is proud to portray students as ambassadors of their culture and tries to involve them in the international events taking place on campus – such as “Expotec”, an exhibition of stands from every state in the country displaying it's people, culture and gastronomical richness- and in the community, to gain practical international experience.

The procedure to assign the “Amigos Internacionales” basically consist of inviting all of the International Studenst coming for the upcoming semestert to answer an e-mail inviting them to participate in the program. We formulate a database with that information and combine it with the student body of the campus who previously contacted the office of International Programs, registering their name and e-mail to join the program also. After this step, the office asks the Mexican friends to accompany them during the pick up of the arriving students at the airport so they can start their friendship right away. With this we seek an instant and total immersion of the International student in the Mexican culture, knowing that in the moment they step on Mexican soil, they have someone who will help him enjoy and get the most out of their international experience.
